YOU Can Start by lowering your Carbon Foot Prints, that's Calculated by taking the amount of space you live in normally and factoring in the amounts of WASTE that You Make, Create and Have in your regular normal everyday lives. By each person doing their own small parts, even children and pets, it will have Enormous Effects on and for your whole community and then eventually the Whole World & Planet Also...
So by now, your probably starting to wonder about just who I am exactly ? Where do I get all my knowledge and information from ?? How educated that I am "or not" and so-forth, so-on, ETC ???
I want this to be a "Real Down Home and Personal" Feeling Website, So OK, What-Everrr, I'll tell just a little about me then, but, I warn you upfront, I'm quite the talker :~)
My name is John, "Nice to meet you all !", I'm the Owner and Operator of this here entire show, my back ground has been mainly in and around the Construction Trades for the past some 35+ years. But unlike most people in this USA society, that graduated "?" schooling and move into one specialized job description
"?" of some kind..."Monocular Doers and Thinkers" I call them, because most are. They are used to and happy with just being a certain way or doing the same things, over and over again, stuck in a Fixed and singular routine !
So thus, if you've been used to being lazy & wasteful, You don't care much about changing, Right ?
That's why I have to just about, Cram it down everyones throat & kick them in the ASS to even make them listen to reason, understand or believe it ? Everyone hears about GREEN LIVING, but most don't participate ? Everyone Talks the Talk, But Don't Really Walk the Walk, For WHAT-EVER reasons that they can make up, in not doing it for...
Now, I followed many different paths to get here to where I am today. Thus, I'm an E-Lite Multi-Tasker and I THINK and SEE Things in Multi-Visions ! I'll explain my points...
I worked "hands on" with and in just about Every Different Type of these General Construction Trades over these many years that I've been in business and Prior... Now, I'm Not just talking about, Dabbling in something on the weekends around the house or helping a friend hang pictures or paint a room in your house construction repairs. I'm talkin' bout, Riding the Ball on the Crane up Four Stories in the Air, while holding your bucket of tools in one hand, before the Sun has even come up yet in the morning, because it was Easier and Safer than climbing up the Old Wood Ladders they tie wired to the walls, types of Work ! (yes, with a safety belt on, of course, OSHA Rules !)
This is where, I'm going to further prove to you my points and prove my abilities to you also !
I resided in Phoenix Arizona for some 48+ years, I'm both a high school and college graduate. (mostly a waste of my time and moneys ?) I started working in a real (paying) job at age 14, delivered papers before school and worked after, cleaning auto parts and sweeping-cleaning in an automotive repair shop, which led to working on & even racing them cars later on. At age 16, I quit the paperboy gig and went to work after school at a marine "boat" dealership. detailing boats, doing simple oil changes, etc. which eventually led on to fiber-glass repairing, gel-coat painting, marine engine overhauling, rigging, welding and testing of new boats and trailers coming in, then into sales and the delivering of the ones going out... But, since the boat shop closed at 6 pm on weekdays, I decides to work as an assistant manager / cook at "Jack in the Box" from 6:30 to mid-nights+ during the week, also. All the while, attending school full time also !
At age 18, I married my high school sweat-heart "?", bought a brand new 3-bedroom home and went into the Cement Masons Union as an apprentice, after 3 years of the mandatory 2 nights a week (3 hrs@) schoolings I was considered to be a full journeyman, then became a foreman and worked on some small projects all over the state of AZ for the next 9+years...
Some to name a few were, MOST of the streets / roads in the Metro Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, and then into the outer growing communities. Sky-Harbor Int. Airport, Terminals 2,3,4. See Phoenix was a small town back then, but now it is just East L.A. !
1to20 story office buildings in the downtown areas. Then came Palo-Verde Nuclear Plant for a year, then 100 miles of the C.A.P . Canal Project, "delivers waters from the Colorado River through Phoenix into southern AZ", then after 15 years of rejections from the public over bonds and higher taxes, Phoenix Only had (1) freeway that ran through the middle of it up until about 1978... I then worked on most all the Big Mess of new freeway systems that are there now today. (imagine ALL Dallas / Ft Worth Texas areas with only having one freeway ? Hmmm...)
In 1981, the unions lost there holds on the trades, they wanted us all to cut our wages by 1/3 and drop 1/2 our medical benefits, then they LOST ALL our pension funds due to bad investments for us... (that's before Uncle Sam put all the new regulations & insurances on loss of these type funds into law about 1982... Too Late For Me !)
Well. that's when I said "No More" to that working for the man mentality ! I dropped out and went to work for MYSELF. I started my own General Contracting Business, to which I'm still working in & on today !
For the first 2 years it was hard to develop a very large clientele base, so I supplemented my incomes by starting a night and weekends only, Janitorial business, I found 10-small offices in the local area that needed my cleaning services badly and was doing well at it in no time at all.
Then for fun, I started a part time Catering business, we did parties and weddings for family, friends, neighbors and then for their friends too... I also developed and improved on my Photography, then my Video-Tography skills, as I began to also do These duties for hire at those same catering and weddings gigs also... But, as the construction business began to receive more and more calls, those fun times jobs went to the way side. It was back out in the Heat and Sun Everyday, unless we were lucky enough to get some work indoors ? Being that I was partial to shade and A/C, I focused my main drives towards developing the kitchen and bathrooms remodeling side of works for some years, opened a custom cabinets shop, carpet & appliances store, sold & installed for 5 years, added a satelite tv dish & home entertainment equipments store, then started to stock & sell Green Living Products also... Then it hit me in 1987, I was making too much money & working Way To Hard & Long. I got my first big bug and urges to move to and live Rural & TOTALLY GREEN, up in the middle of a forest and in the high mountains !
I soon purchased a 1 acre lot in the north eastern area of AZ... I wanted to Semi-Retire at the age of 36, with a home down in the Heat, Dirt and Cactus, And a little summer cabin in the pines, at 7550 ft elevation, in that Nasty Snow/Cold rural country and then be nearer to the Ski Slopes, Woo Hoo!... Well friends, be very careful of what you wish for !!!
After 12 months of Dawn till Dusk working 6 days a week, I finally completed my "Little Grizzly Adams Cabin Project in the hills"... Doing nearly ALL the construction works alone & by myself. (with many different type of Nail Guns !)
It started off as a simple 30'x50' house w/a standard 2 car garage, all in my mind, No Blue-Print Plans or Drawings. Sorry, the part that I left out was that it was on a Big Hill, 10'of fall in 50'slope line, that's about a 45 degree angle, on a totally tall pine covered, natural and untouched forest lot. I got a good $deal on it and didn't stop to notice or think much on the ramifications of building on it... So, after figuring out how to cut down 60+ ft tall & 3' Dia. trees, for the roads and homesite, Blow, YES (Dynamite :) the stumps out and all the nearly solid rock ground areas, for a septic system, underground utilities, concrete footings and to terrace level (20' deep) the mountainside for a house w/a 2000sg footprint ! Then being so far from town and the closest If Any ? lumber suppliers, ready-mix plants, ETC. it became quite a job. It ended up growing a bunch as I added on now a second (under the house) garage / workshop and a 2nd story floor with another 1500+ sqft of living areas, also !
Grant Total, it came out to 3650sqft living, w/5800 under-roof, (3) stories tall, (2) Large 30'x30' parking garages w/workshop, a top of the line Custom SOLAR Home, with all the bells and whistles that you could ever possibly want or need, a then "New" technology and really FREE, TV SAT Sys w/10'Dish, a Full Solar Hot Water Heating System, Rain Water Cisterns, Built on 13'x35' indoor/out Green House Patio area w/6 person - Solar Heated Spa, R-30+ Walls, R-60+ Ceilings, Thermal Barrier Attics, Large Super-Efficient Wood Burning Stove and Top of the Line Energy Appliances, Triple-Paned Low-E Glass Windows, Foam Cored Doors, etc, ETC ! Just as possibly GREEN as I could make and build it at the time...
But, it WAS all worth it ! As I had built a $500,000 home on only a $50,000 budget !!! And for the 9+ years that I owned it after, our highest utility bills Per Month were $50 Total or Less, for All the Electricity, Water,
Propane, ETC. usages !!!
Since then, I have personally built and lived in 3 more other Custom Built "SOLAR" and GREEN LIVING Homes, each one using the best & newest technologies for the times in which they were built.
NOW, for the reasons that I've told you all this here little story about ME is this.
I wanted to spark your urges in building GREEN or to just Peak your many curiosities about what you could do to improve your own home and/or to lessen your moneys paid out each and every month to the Electric Power Companies, Utilities and those Hugh/FAT Cat Oil Companies who Rule This World by making Billions off all us po regular fossil fuels using and energy burning people ???
If So, then you need to call and talk with US about helping to Bail you out ! In Taking control of your own destiny, Fixing yourself into lower energy bills and stay at that same cost levels forever ! This is REALLY BIG, with today's technologies you can now get off the grid and be TOTALLY SELF-SUFFICIENT ANY-WHERE, Even inside those big city limits lines. And Remember about all them new State and Federal Tax Credits and Incentives that you can receive, NOW ! That is TAX MONEYS You Have Already PAID Out, All PUT BACK INTO YOUR POCKET and not into the governments, so that they can just squander it away or give it all away to someone (or some other country or auto builder, etc...) other than you in benefits...
